HID Retrofit Lamps

LED Corn Bulb Choices for Existing Fixtures

Before choosing an LED corn bulb, check the socket, circuit and room inside the old fixture. The lamp is rated IP20 as published, so the host luminaire also needs its own environmental check.
  • Published 30W to 150W models with separate output ranges
  • Base options that vary by model and power
  • Type B direct-wire installation after ballast removal or bypass

Reuse with care

A lamp retrofit is a fixture-level decision

A corn lamp will screw into a socket only if the base matches. The circuit and housing must also suit the selected model.
VST publishes seven LED corn bulb models from 30W to 150W. The pages list 360° distribution, AC100–305V input and a Type B direct-wire method that requires the old ballast to be removed or bypassed. Small models can offer E26/E27/E39/E40 options; higher-power models list E39/E40. Check the actual socket, available diameter and length, reflector or enclosure, ventilation and environmental protection before comparing advertised HID equivalence. As an LED corn bulb supplier, VST can then identify a suitable sample and conversion scope for the fixture.
✓

Base match

Check whether the socket is E26, E27, E39 or E40 and whether the selected power actually offers it. Do not choose from a family photograph.

✓

Ballast bypass

The published Type B route connects to AC mains after the HID ballast is removed or bypassed. A qualified installer must own the wiring change.

✓

Physical space

A corn lamp has side-mounted LEDs and needs clearance inside the existing reflector or enclosure. Compare dimensions and airflow before approving output.

✓

Protection boundary

The published lamp is IP20. A covered or damp location requires a separately suitable host luminaire; the bare lamp is not a weatherproof fixture.

Retrofit support

Make the host fixture part of the quotation

An LED corn bulb manufacturer needs the socket, circuit and housing details before quoting a lamp for an HID retrofit. VST can match the proposed base and power to the measured host fixture.
✓

Seven model pages

The 30W to 150W series provides published output ranges and dimensions for comparison. VST can shortlist the relevant power before a fixture-matched sample.

✓

Electrical review

Socket and ballast information can be checked against the Type B route early. The installer still confirms the converted circuit, earthing and local electrical requirements.

✓

Thermal discussion

Lamp length, reflector space and heat path affect whether an existing fixture can be reused. VST can compare the model dimensions with the host enclosure.

✓

Model evidence

Published pages give input, output range, base, IP and direct-wire information. Ask which documents apply to the quoted model and market.

✓

Packing and repeat supply

Keep the approved power, base, label and carton details with the order so a later replacement uses the same lamp configuration.

Lamp and fixture

What the corn lamp provides

The corn lamp is one part of the retrofit. The old fixture determines the socket, available space and wiring work.
A VST LED corn bulb has LED arrays around a multi-sided body, an aluminum-alloy structure and a screw base. The published series lists 120–135 lm/W, 360° distribution, CRI ≥80 and IP20 on the lamp itself. It is not a complete high-bay luminaire. Its Type B direct-wire method needs the existing ballast removed or bypassed, and the old socket and housing must accept the lamp’s actual base and dimensions. Evaluate the converted fixture, not just lamp wattage or a suggested HID equivalent.

Thermal clearance

Leave enough room around the lamp for its length and side-emitting body inside the host reflector or enclosure.

Useful light

Compare the model’s lumen range and the real fixture geometry rather than equating old HID wattage with final illuminance.

Corn lamp construction

What changes inside an HID fixture

The LED faces, heat path and screw base each depend on space and conditions inside the host fixture.

Light source

Multi-sided LED panels

LED packages cover several faces of the corn lamp, allowing broad distribution within a suitable host reflector. A published output range depends on model and configuration; the side LEDs alone cannot predict useful light on a warehouse floor. Compare the selected model with the mounting height and a lighting plan if the task has a target level.

Thermal path

Aluminum-alloy body

The internal structure helps move heat away from the LED panels. Its effect depends on operating conditions and the space left by the original luminaire. A larger lamp squeezed into a closed or poorly ventilated housing is not a sound substitution. Check lamp dimensions and the host fixture’s allowable use before installation.

Connector

Screw base

The screw base secures the lamp to the host socket and completes its electrical interface. Published base choices change across the range: E26/E27/E39/E40 may be offered on lower-power models, while 100W and above list E39/E40. Verify the actual ordered base and socket condition before a sample is fitted.

Applications

Where the old fixture can be reused

The existing socket, wiring and housing set the limits for each conversion.

Warehouse aisles

An open high-bay housing above storage aisles may accept a corn lamp if the socket and converted circuit match. Check the E39 or E40 base where required, reflector depth, lamp length, ventilation and mounting height. VST can compare published models and provide a sample for the measured fixture.

Parking structures

A covered parking area needs more than a compatible socket. The published lamp is IP20, so check the outer fixture's protection, ballast bypass, clearance and service access. VST can discuss model dimensions once the full host conditions are known.

Ordering with VST

Corn Lamp Order Questions

Agree on the lamp model and required fixture conversion before discussing order terms.
01

Yes. A sample can be arranged after the socket, wiring conversion and housing dimensions are known. The installer should check the actual converted luminaire. Any credit of sample charges against a later bulk order must be agreed beforehand.
02

The starting quantity depends on power, base, volume and packaging. A lower-value standard model may begin around 100 pieces in discussion; higher-power fixtures may justify a lower amount where appropriate. The exact MOQ belongs in the quotation.
03

VST can discuss private labels and export cartons for a confirmed model. Provide compliant artwork, base and voltage labeling requirements, carton marks and market details. A deeper product change can involve separate engineering or tooling cost.
04

The standard corn lamp route usually needs 2–3 weeks in production after the model is approved. A limited modification normally needs 3–4 weeks; deeper work requires roughly 4–6 weeks. Freight is not included.
05

No. The term must be tied to the selected corn model and conditions of use. VST commonly discusses either three or five years for regular lighting; the approved quotation states what applies.
06

For a suspected lamp defect, provide the model, order, installation context and clear photos or video. Once the product issue is checked, VST can discuss replacement items shipped separately or with a future order.

Product Questions

Corn Lamp Retrofit Questions

These answers cover the old fixture, ballast and lamp clearance for an LED corn bulb retrofit.

The published VST Type B method requires the ballast to be removed or bypassed. A qualified installer must identify the old circuit, make the permitted conversion and verify the final AC input. Do not energize the lamp on an assumed ballast-compatible route.

Published power Base choices Check
30W–80W E26/E27/E39/E40 Confirm ordered base
100W–150W E39/E40 Check larger socket

Measure the available inside diameter and length of the host fixture and compare them with the selected model page. Allow for the socket, reflector and thermal clearance. The 150W page lists D93 × H338mm, which can rule out a shallow housing.

No. IP20 describes the lamp as published. A damp, dusty or exposed site needs a separately appropriate host luminaire and installation design. An outer cover also changes the available heat space, so protection cannot be judged from a lamp photo alone.

No. A published HID comparison is only a starting reference. The actual useful light depends on the old fixture, reflector, mounting height, distribution and the work area. Compare model lumen range and a layout or trial before committing to a large conversion.

The multi-sided LED body emits around the lamp, but the reflector and any enclosure redirect or block part of that output. Inspect the host fixture geometry and visual task. A sample helps reveal glare or wasted light that a bare-lamp specification cannot show.

Keep the lamp model, base, converted wiring, host photos, dimensions and light result. The installer should sign off the electrical conversion. This gives later project phases a reference when fixtures differ from the trial location.
