Low-voltage integration
5V LED Strip Options for Compact Product Integration
- White COB and addressable COB routes serve different functions.
- Published board widths help assess the available enclosure space.
- Current and cable planning matter even at low supply voltage.
- Engineering support can connect the sample to your integration brief.
Start with the host system
A shared voltage is only the first check
Reserve current for lighting
A 5V output may already serve other electronics. Establish the remaining capacity and the lighting's maximum operating load before choosing a strip length.
Define data separately
Addressable lighting requires more than power. Confirm the actual protocol, signal level, color order and controller support for the chosen construction.
Measure usable space
Include wire bends, terminals and enclosure clearance alongside board width. A strip that fits alone may not fit once its leads are attached.

From prototype to assembly
Make the sample work inside the host product
Integration-focused support
Electrical and mechanical input can be considered together, helping your team avoid selecting a light strip that fits the enclosure but conflicts with its cable route.
Sample revision discussion
An initial sample can expose differences between the planned effect and the host system's behavior. VST supports a focused discussion of the changes needed.
Prepared assembly options
Lead preparation and identification can be matched to the product's build sequence, reducing ambiguity when a prototype moves into repeated assembly.
Quality checks for the function
Specify which light states must be checked. White illumination, a static color and a programmed sequence can reveal different defects during product testing.

Useful design choices
Practical integration features

Functional choice
Steady white and programmable color are separate product routes. Choosing the function first avoids building an unnecessary control interface into the host product.

Host-interface planning
The intended supply and signal connection can be discussed during sampling, before an enclosure or harness fixes the available interface.

Compact light source
COB configurations offer a continuous-looking emitting surface for close viewing. Test the actual optical cover and distance in the host assembly.

Assembly identification
Product labels and packing can distinguish prepared lengths or variants during assembly, especially when similar reels have different control behavior.

- Disconnect power and identify the required voltage and polarity.
- Check source capacity and the complete lead route under the intended load.
- For addressable designs, connect the documented data input and common reference as specified.
- Secure the board without folds or tension at its leads.
- Test the installed assembly's maximum intended state before closing the enclosure.
