Built-In Light Engine Development

Integrated LED Lighting That Fits Your Product and Service Access

VST develops integrated LED lighting around the available cavity, illuminated area and access for maintenance. As your integrated LED lighting supplier, we evaluate the mounting and power arrangement together, so the proposed assembly fits the host product. Your initial inquiry leads to configuration advice and a quotation scope, even before every specification is settled.

Where Built-In Light Must Work Around the Host

Integrated LED lighting is useful when a standard fixture occupies too much space or leaves exposed wiring. These applications place different demands on access, glare and heat transfer; select the host environment first.

Avoid Problems Hidden Behind the Finished Surface

Driver trapped inside furniture

Purchasing risk: A failed power unit could require removing finished panels.

VST solution direction: Provide a service cover and a connector reachable through that opening.

Heat retained by the host

Purchasing risk: An enclosed recess can run hotter than an open-bench sample.

Confirm: Host material around the recess

VST solution direction: Evaluate the housing against the actual mounting surface and ventilation space.

Unspecified replacement interface

Purchasing risk: A later light engine may fit the opening but not the cable or fixing.

VST solution direction: Record mounting holes and connector identity alongside the electrical specification.

Define the Parts Your Integrated LED Lighting Needs

VST approaches the project as an integrated LED lighting manufacturer, matching the light engine to the host before adding functions. Profile and cable changes may adapt a suitable platform; a new board or housing requires development.

Housing and retention

Choose recessed flanges or surface fixing according to the host material. Reusing a suitable extrusion avoids a new profile, while unusual corners or mounting bosses may require dedicated machining or tooling.

Diffuser and source spacing

A deeper optical space can hide individual emitters, but it occupies more of the enclosure. A thinner integrated LED lighting assembly needs its diffuser and board layout evaluated together before the profile is finalized.

Buyer input: Minimum viewing distance and sightline

Electrical interface

A remote driver keeps conversion heat away from the light engine and needs accessible space elsewhere. An integrated driver simplifies external wiring but increases the package and thermal demands within the product.

Buyer input: Available supply and control signal

Service construction

Removable covers and identified connectors make access possible without disturbing the whole host. Sealed or bonded parts may suit another environment, but the resulting replacement unit must be defined before production.

Choose Where the Driver Will Be Accessible

For integrated LED lighting fixtures, the driver location changes cable routing and maintenance access. Compare both positions against the real installation space rather than assuming a smaller light engine always means easier installation.

Decision factor Remote driverDriver inside assembly Buyer guidance
Space allocation Slimmer light engine with separate power enclosureLarger complete housing contains the power components Use the option that fits both the recess and service opening.
Cable installation Low-voltage lead runs from an accessible driverSupply enters the complete light assembly Plan cable access before closing the host structure.
Thermal path Power conversion heat is separated from the LEDsDriver and LEDs share the installation environment Evaluate the full enclosure, especially where ventilation is limited.
Replacement scope Driver and light engine can be separate service itemsAccess depends on the complete assembly construction Specify the intended replacement unit before ordering spare parts.

Turn the Installation Space into a Repeatable Assembly

Development starts with the host product’s mounting, power and service interfaces. Our integrated LED lighting factory team develops the assembly and records sample changes, producing a parts list, mounting details and wiring layout for repeat production.

Evaluate the Installed Assembly Before Setting Product Claims

For integrated LED lighting supply, VST evaluates the mounted assembly as well as the source. These checks address fit, output and heating; the applicable limits belong to the selected construction and operating conditions.

Mounting and removal check

Purpose: Find interference that would delay installation or prevent servicing.

Method: Fit the unpowered bar to the host mock-up, then remove it using the planned access route.

Acceptance criteria: Secure seating, accessible fasteners and removal without damage to the host.

Evidence: Fit observations can be recorded for the project.

Integrating-sphere measurement

Purpose: Assess the assembled diffuser and LED source as one optical system.

Method: Load a suitably sized sample into the sphere, close the enclosure and measure under the specified operating conditions.

Acceptance criteria: Luminous output and color characteristics match the selected specification.

Evidence: Applicable results depend on the final sample and test scope.

Housing temperature evaluation

Purpose: Check heat accumulation against the installed material rather than an unsupported lifetime claim.

Method: Operate the fixed assembly and examine accessible housing surfaces after stabilization, accounting for emissivity.

Acceptance criteria: Housing and component temperatures remain within the project limits.

Evidence: A thermal record is project-specific, supported by actual measurements.

Operating endurance evaluation

Purpose: Check for unstable operation of the complete light engine and driver.

Method: Run the supported assembly with its selected driver and clear heat paths for the agreed evaluation period.

Acceptance criteria: No unintended shutdown or visible instability under the specified operating conditions.

Evidence: Duration and observations can be recorded for the selected sample.

Plan Development and Repeat Orders for Built-In Lighting

MOQ approach

For each model, light customization normally starts at 500 units and extensive customization at 1,000 units. A familiar body with different leads may use an adaptable platform; a bespoke engine or housing requires deeper development. The quotation sets the final quantity for your integrated LED lighting assembly.

Sampling support

VST supports samples with processing charges; new production resources may also involve tooling or mold charges. Eligible sample expenditure can be returned or credited against a later production order. The amount and method are discussed for your assembly and recorded in the quotation or order terms.

Lead-time factors

Light customization typically takes 15-25 working days for samples and 20-30 for bulk production. Extensive customization normally needs 30-50 for samples and 25-35 for bulk production. Timing starts when the necessary technical information, applicable fees and deposit or other order conditions are complete. Reserving key materials for stable-demand orders can shorten later lead times.

Tooling / NRE

A new extrusion, board, optical part or dedicated assembly fixture may carry a tooling or NRE charge. Eligible tooling or mold costs can be credited against payment for a later production order. Qualifying orders, amounts and the credit method are settled for the project and written into its commercial terms.

Supply stability

As your integrated LED lighting supplier, VST coordinates component continuity around the selected board, diffuser and harness. Stable-demand orders can use forecasts to reserve agreed materials and support steadier production scheduling. This is material planning, not a promise that complete finished assemblies will always be held in stock.

Packaging & logistics

Packaging can be adapted for exposed diffuser faces and mounting flanges. VST also customizes labels, carton marks, barcodes, brand artwork, instruction sheets and user manuals. Identified inner packs help keep wiring variants separate during assembly; shipment coordination is available within the agreed order scope.

Questions About Integrating the Light into Your Product

The remaining decisions often sit between the light engine and the finished product: what is included in the quotation, which controls will operate together and how the first version relates to a later product revision. The answers below address those boundaries. If your integrated LED lighting project has another constraint, contact VST to discuss its effect on supply and installation.

Does integrated mean the light source cannot be replaced?

No. Integrated LED lights contain a built-in source rather than a conventional replaceable bulb, but serviceability depends on construction. A screwed board and accessible harness may support component replacement. A bonded assembly may instead be replaced as a unit. The quotation should identify which service parts are included and which require a separate order.

Can I buy the light engine without the power equipment?

Yes, the proposed supply scope can separate the engine from the power equipment. The electrical interface still needs a defined owner.

Quoted scope Boundary to settle
Light engine only You provide a compatible supply and control interface.
Engine and driver VST includes the selected driver and connecting harness.
Host-integrated assembly Host manufacture and final assembly remain separately defined.
Will the assembly work with our existing dimming system?

Compatibility depends on the actual driver and control signal, not just a dimmable label. Identify the controller model and its output interface. VST evaluates a suitable driver/control combination for the integrated LED fixture; no existing building automation system or wireless protocol is assumed compatible without checking that combination.

Can several host products use the same lighting design?

They may share a board or profile where the mounting, thermal conditions and electrical load remain suitable. A changed enclosure can still affect performance. Separate the common components from the host-specific parts in the quotation so you can see where reuse is practical and where another sample is needed.
