Exterior fixtures developed for the site

Custom Outdoor Lighting Built Around Mounting, Exposure and Light Control

VST develops custom outdoor lighting when the wall connection, housing or light pattern needs to change. As a custom outdoor lighting manufacturer, we use your site description to propose an assembly and sample plan. The downlight shown is one possible starting point; the final construction depends on the exposure and performance your project requires.

  • Mounting and rear cable entry developed together for the building interface
  • Housing and finish selected for the exposure described in your project
  • Light distribution assessed on the chosen fixture and optical version

Start with a site photo or fixture concept, approximate size and exposure conditions; note any requirements still undecided.

Match Custom Outdoor Lighting to the Installation Conditions

VST separates the fixture from the building-side work in its custom outdoor lighting supplier quote. For custom exterior lighting, check exposure, viewing angle and service access at each entrance, covered passage or courtyard.

Details That Can Delay Installation

A cable is forced through an edge of the mounting plate.

Purchasing risk: The jacket can be trapped during installation.

Confirm: Wall outlet location

VST solution direction: Provide a dedicated protected entry and cable space.

A general outdoor label replaces an exposure specification.

Purchasing risk: The seal or finish may not suit the site.

Confirm: Exposure conditions

VST solution direction: Select the seal construction and finish for the stated site conditions.

The fixture can be fixed but not opened for service.

Purchasing risk: Maintenance may damage the wall or housing.

Confirm: Service access

VST solution direction: Keep retaining screws and removable parts accessible.

Housing, Seals and Mounting for the Selected Site

Our custom outdoor lighting factory can adapt an existing body when its seals and mount suit the site. A new enclosure, optical recess or wall connection needs more development. The rear construction shown explains the assembly but does not establish a certified protection rating.

Housing and material

Body size, material and finish can follow the exterior design and stated exposure.

Buyer input: Site conditions

Optical opening

For custom outdoor LED lighting, diffuser, recess and source placement control the visible emitting face and intended light pattern.

Buyer input: Task and viewing angle

Rear plate and entry

Fixing slots, cable passage and strain relief can be coordinated with the building outlet.

Buyer input: Outlet and substrate

Sealing and access

Gasket seating and service fasteners must work together so assembly does not damage the protected entry.

Adapt an Existing Housing or Develop a New Enclosure

Check the wall connection and exposure first. A finish or mounting change may fit an existing body. A different seal path or optical shape can require new tools and a separate validation plan.

Decision factor Existing Housing AdaptationNew Exterior Enclosure Buyer guidance
Mounting Uses available rear geometry where suitableCan place slots and cable space around a new interface Compare the complete rear envelope with the wall outlet.
Sealing path Retains existing gasket geometry where suitableNeeds its own gasket and assembly development Do not carry a rating across changes without supporting evidence.
Optics Uses compatible existing diffuser or source partsCan change aperture and recess together Judge the view and beam for the actual mounting height.
Service Follows existing fasteners and access coversCan provide a different maintenance route Keep the removal operation practical after installation.

Develop the Rear Interface Before Closing the Housing

VST starts at the wall connection as your custom outdoor lighting manufacturer. The rear plate establishes fixing positions and cable space. A wall mock-up then checks the seated gasket, protected entry and service access before the assembly is released.

Checks for the Selected Exterior Assembly

VST, your custom outdoor lighting supplier, plans checks for the mount, seals, light distribution and temperature. A requested ingress or corrosion rating requires applicable test evidence. These photographs show methods, not a passed product rating.

Mounting fit

Purpose: Check body seating against the installed plate.

Method: Fit the unpowered fixture to a wall mock-up and inspect its seating and alignment.

Acceptance criteria: The fixture sits securely with access to the intended fasteners.

Evidence: Mounting record identifying the interface used for the check.

Gasket continuity inspection

Purpose: Find poor seating before closing the enclosure.

Method: Inspect the perimeter groove and cable-entry area with the fixture disconnected.

Acceptance criteria: The selected gasket is continuous and seated without visible damage.

Evidence: An assembly record does not replace an ingress test.

Dark industrial chamber with a circular bore at the far end and a metal rail leading toward it.

IES distribution setup

Purpose: Establish the selected fixture light pattern.

Method: Hold the complete fixture rigidly by its rear mount at the goniophotometer rotation center and measure in a dark room.

Acceptance criteria: Measured distribution meets the project optical target.

Evidence: IES file after testing the specified optical version.

Installed thermal observation

Purpose: Assess housing temperature in its intended orientation.

Method: Operate the closed fixture on a representative wall and inspect the body after stabilization.

Acceptance criteria: Temperature limits follow the selected components and specified conditions.

Evidence: Thermal record after testing the mounted sample.

Commercial Planning for Custom Outdoor Lighting

MOQ approach

Light adaptations of custom outdoor light fixtures generally start at 500 units per model. A substantially new enclosure, optical system or mounting design normally starts at 1,000 units for one model. The quote defines the included variant.

Sampling support

VST supports a complete exterior fixture sample for mounting and appearance checks. Processing and dedicated tools may carry charges. Eligible sample costs may be returned or credited on a later production order under the agreed project terms.

Lead-time factors

Typical light-customization lead times are 15-25 working days for samples and 20-30 for bulk production. Deep customization usually needs 30-50 working days for samples and 25-35 for bulk production. The selected construction and commissioned testing affect the schedule.

Tooling / NRE

A new casting, gasket mold or forming tool may carry a separate fee. Written terms can specify the amount credited against goods value in a later qualifying order and the conditions that apply.

Supply stability

Repeat production uses the released enclosure, seal, optical and finish versions. With stable demand, VST can prepare or reserve agreed key materials before orders to maintain matching supply and reduce delays between batches.

Packaging & logistics

Custom outdoor lighting fixtures need packing that protects the visible finish and keeps mounting hardware away from the diffuser. Customized labels, manuals, installation sheets and carton marks can identify the variant and the parts included for installation.

Questions Before Ordering Custom Outdoor Lighting

An exterior fixture may have to connect to a box, cable and control system already on site. Those details affect the assembly even after its appearance is settled. Identify what the project will supply and what must come with the lamp. If the wall construction or exposure is still changing, raise that before fixing the enclosure and electrical versions for production.

Can the fixture use an existing wall junction box?

A candidate plate can be developed around its footprint and fixing points. Box dimensions, cable entry and service space must be checked together; a similar cover size alone is not enough.

Can the supply cable enter from another direction?

Specify an alternate cable entry before releasing the housing. Moving the entry can affect sealing and service, and drilling a finished fixture on site needs to be treated as a construction change.

Can a sensor or building controller be supplied separately?

The quote can define each interface.

Item Identify before order
Fixture Supply and control input
Sensor Included or project supplied
Controller Required compatible interface
What happens if the exposure conditions change?

A move from a sheltered location to a more exposed site can require different materials, seals or tests. The earlier sample and records need to be assessed against the revised installation.

Can we repaint the housing after delivery?

Discuss the desired coating before ordering. An added finish can affect surfaces, seals and heat transfer, so it should not be treated as an interchangeable cosmetic step.
