Assembled LED light engines

Custom LED board engineering for your product interface

VST is a custom LED board manufacturer for product integration. We develop outlines, LED populations, component layouts, and electrical interfaces around the host product. A linear light engine, circular module, and populated control board need different layouts. The proposed electronics and connection choices are evaluated for your project before production.

  • Choose linear, circular, or shaped layouts with components and connectors suited to the assembly.
  • Evaluate the selected driver and heat-transfer path under the intended mounting conditions.
  • Keep board revisions traceable when samples move into repeat production.

Describe the host product and board space; an existing sample or rough outline is enough to begin discussing open requirements.

Linear, circular, and populated FR-4 LED boards with different component layouts and connectors

Fit the light engine to its housing

A custom LED board that fits the outline still needs space for optics, cooling, and servicing. The enclosure and application determine which details need attention before the assembly is finalized.

Enclosed equipment task light

Operating environment
Protected lighting inside an equipment enclosure.
Buyer requirement
A compact custom LED light board must illuminate the working zone.
Design constraint
The enclosure limits access to the connector and heat-transfer surface.
Design direction
Locate the connection away from the fixing path and evaluate the finished enclosure.

Display shelf light engine

Operating environment
An indoor display with a shallow illuminated aperture.
Buyer requirement
Keep the luminous face visually consistent across the shelf.
Design constraint
Source spacing and the optical gap affect visible spotting.
Design direction
Coordinate LED placement with the selected diffuser and available mixing depth.

Service compartment illumination

Operating environment
An indoor cabinet with periodic maintenance access.
Buyer requirement
Custom LED boards should fit a replaceable enclosed light unit.
Design constraint
Doors, service tools, and nearby control components occupy the same space.
Design direction
Place the module outside the working access path and separate lighting connections clearly.

Prevent interface errors that delay assembly

Matching voltage hides a current mismatch

Purchasing risk: An unsuitable driver can push the selected LED string outside its operating envelope.

Confirm: Driver output mode and operating range

VST solution direction: Check how the driver operates with the board circuit, including its current range as well as nominal voltage.

A fastener interferes with a live feature

Purchasing risk: A mounting screw or standoff can damage tracks or compromise the intended separation.

Confirm: Fastener and standoff contact envelope

VST solution direction: Show mounting hardware and electrical clearances together in the mechanical drawing.

A small component change alters the light

Purchasing risk: Uncontrolled LED substitutions can create appearance differences across repeat assemblies.

VST solution direction: Record the accepted components and check substitutions against the released light-engine requirements.

Choose the board changes your assembly needs

As your custom LED board OEM supplier, VST develops the outline and populated circuit together. The examples show different LED densities, passive and control-component layouts, and terminals. Component selection follows the required circuit functions and operating conditions.

Board outline and mounting

Linear, circular, annular, or shaped outlines can follow the host structure, with fixing holes and connector clearances positioned for assembly. Routing space and insulation requirements limit how tightly LEDs and other components can be packed.

LED population and component layout

LED quantity, spacing, and circuit grouping can follow the luminous area. Where the circuit needs them, resistors, capacitors, control ICs, or other components can share the board. Their electrical and thermal roles must be established.

Buyer input: Intended optical stack and luminous aperture

Substrate and thermal interface

FR-4 and metal-core boards offer different routing and heat-transfer options. Choose the material from the operating power and the complete thermal path. An aluminum base alone does not establish an acceptable LED temperature.

Buyer input: Housing contact surface and thermal interface concept

Connection and electrical layout

Push-in terminals, screw terminals, keyed signal headers, or soldered leads are connection options to evaluate. Choose them by current, available clearance, assembly method, and service access. An onboard control circuit and an external driver require different interface definitions.

Compare FR-4 and metal-core board options

Choose a substrate for both heat removal and circuit routing. These qualitative differences help specify a custom LED board; they do not describe measured performance of a VST model.

Decision factor FR-4 constructionMetal-core construction Buyer guidance
Heat removal route Uses designed copper and the wider thermal assemblyAdds a metal base beneath an insulating layer Follow the full path from LED junction to ambient air.
Circuit routing needs Suitable for varied circuit and layer arrangementsRouting must suit the selected insulated metal stack Let circuit complexity inform material selection alongside heat transfer.
Housing interface Attachment and contact depend on the designBase contact can become an important thermal interface Compare the real mounting surface, not only the board material.

Develop the board and record the build

You need a sample that works with its housing and a record of what to order again. VST develops both as your custom LED board supplier, bringing the circuit and mechanical assembly into the same build description.

Budget board development and repeat supply separately

MOQ approach

The normal starting MOQ for each model is 500 pieces with light customization or 1,000 with high customization. Adapting a suitable platform is different from developing a new PCB, optics, or assembly process. For custom LED boards, the quotation applies to the chosen circuit and construction; unrelated designs are counted separately.

Sampling support

VST develops samples with applicable processing charges. A board program that needs new tooling or dedicated production resources may also incur mold or tooling costs. Eligible sample spending may be returned or credited against a subsequent production order. Record the amount and repayment or credit method in the project terms.

Lead-time factors

Samples with light customization normally take 15–25 working days, while bulk production takes 20–30 working days. For high customization, allow 30–50 working days for samples and 25–35 for bulk manufacture. Timing begins after technical information, applicable sample fees, tooling charges, deposit, and other order conditions are complete. Material reservations against forecasts can help shorten repeat orders.

Tooling / NRE

New circuit layouts, production fixtures, optical parts, and other dedicated resources may carry tooling or NRE charges. Eligible tooling or mold costs can offset a later production payment. The agreement must identify the qualifying order and credit amount. Development costs are not automatically refundable in full.

Supply stability

With VST as your custom LED board supplier in China, component sourcing and repeat builds follow the accepted assembly revision. Predictable programs can use forecasts to prepare or reserve agreed key materials. This supports scheduling without promising finished-board stock. Any component change still needs to be checked against that revision.

Packaging & logistics

Protect populated components during handling and keep each board identifiable. We can customize the product packaging and labels, printed brand artwork, barcodes, carton marks, user manuals, and instruction sheets. The order states which items accompany the board or complete assembly. Packing quantities and transport charges are established before shipment coordination.

Questions before ordering your custom LED board

You may already have circuit files, a reference part, or only a product requirement. The questions here explain how those starting points affect development and delivery. If your custom LED board must work with a legacy design or another electronics supplier, contact VST to agree which inputs and files each party provides. A finished design package is not required to start that discussion.

Can I start without Gerber files?

Yes. Describe the required function or provide a reference assembly to start a custom LED board discussion. The quotation should distinguish assembly of your finished circuit design from development work.

Starting point Scope to establish
Existing circuit files Assembly and design responsibility
Reference light engine Required functions and differences
New product concept Circuit and mechanical development
Is the quoted item a bare PCB or a populated board?

Ask for that distinction in the quotation. A bare PCB has no installed LEDs or other components. A populated light engine includes the agreed components. Your custom LED light board order should also list any leads, connectors, thermal interface materials, and external driver. A photograph alone does not establish what is supplied.

Can a new board replace an unavailable legacy part?

Possibly. The retained driver, optics, and mounting surface all need checking, even when the new outline fits. Identify which surrounding parts must stay. A replacement custom LED board can then be evaluated against those interfaces before it is treated as interchangeable with the original.

Will I receive the editable circuit design files?

Agree file delivery before development starts. Buying assembled boards does not automatically include ownership of, or access to, editable design files. If you need manufacturing data, source files, or a specific handover format, include that requirement and any usage restrictions in the development agreement.
