Complete shades made to specification

Custom Lamp Shade Sizes, Materials and Fitters for Your Design

VST makes complete shades for lamp ranges and interior projects that need a particular proportion, material or fitting. As a custom lamp shade manufacturer, we develop the frame and lining with the covering. You can establish a workable construction and sample plan while some fabric and trim choices are still open.

  • Frame and fitter developed together so the shade sits at the intended height
  • Material samples help you judge texture and appearance with the lamp lit

Match the Shade to the Lamp and Room

VST lists the finished shade and fitter together in its custom lamp shade supplier quotation. Table, floor and console lamps need different proportions and fitting heights to control how much bulb or socket remains visible.

Details That Can Delay Installation

The shade is the right width but the wrong fitting height.

Purchasing risk: The socket shows or the shade sits too low.

Confirm: Fitter position

VST solution direction: Measure the attachment relative to the shade edge.

A chosen fabric changes strongly when backlit.

Purchasing risk: The delivered appearance differs from the unlit swatch.

Confirm: Lit appearance

VST solution direction: Evaluate covering and lining together on a reference lamp.

The shade ring is out of level on the lamp.

Purchasing risk: The fixture looks crooked despite a straight base.

Confirm: Fitter seating

VST solution direction: Check the frame and fitting as one assembly.

Specify the Frame, Covering and Attachment Together

Our custom lamp shade factory can use an available frame with a different covering or trim. A new outline or special fitter needs frame development. Choose materials with the actual light source and the clearance it needs in mind.

Shape and proportions

Drum, tapered and other feasible outlines can be developed around top width, bottom width and finished height.

Buyer input: Overall silhouette

Covering and lining

For custom lampshades, fabric texture, color, opacity and lining change the lit appearance. A material swatch alone cannot show every seam or frame shadow.

Buyer input: Material preference

Fitter and drop

Spider, socket-ring or other suitable attachment styles must match the lamp hardware; they are not interchangeable without checking the fitting.

Buyer input: Lamp interface

Seam and edge finish

Rolled edges, trim and seam placement can follow the design and the way the shade is viewed.

Buyer input: Visible seam position

Spider Fitter or Socket-Ring Attachment

Match the attachment to the lamp hardware. The illustrated spider washer rests on a harp and is secured by a finial. A socket-ring shade is supported at the socket, so it needs a different fitting.

From Shade Proportion to a Finished Sample

VST establishes the frame and fitting before finishing the covering. As your custom lamp shade supplier, we set the fitter position from the lamp hardware, then use a complete sample to judge the material, edge finish and overall proportion.

Checks for a Finished Custom Lamp Shade

A custom lamp shade is a passive component. Its checks cover shape, fitting and appearance. Required material tests or complete-lamp assessments need a separate scope. The photographs illustrate inspection methods and do not provide test certificates.

Ring and height inspection

Purpose: Find distortion in the finished outline.

Method: Place the shade on a flat surface and check height and ring geometry against its drawing.

Acceptance criteria: The shade matches the agreed dimensions and shape.

Evidence: Dimensional inspection sheet after checking the selected shade sample.

Fitter seating check

Purpose: Verify that the shade sits level.

Method: Mount the shade on the matching harp jig and inspect the frame plane.

Acceptance criteria: The fitter seats securely without bending the frame.

Evidence: Fitting observation identifying the hardware used for the check.

Surface and seam inspection

Purpose: Assess visible workmanship.

Method: Examine the fabric seam, lining and rolled edges under neutral light.

Acceptance criteria: No unacceptable loose edge, stain or distorted seam is present.

Evidence: Workmanship photographs documenting the agreed sample.

Lit appearance check

Purpose: See fabric and frame shadows in use.

Method: Fit the shade to a reference lamp with the selected source and inspect it from normal viewing positions.

Acceptance criteria: The observed appearance meets the agreed visual sample.

Evidence: Appearance record for the tested shade and light-source combination.

Commercial Planning for Custom Lamp Shade

MOQ approach

For one custom lamp shade model, a light material or trim adaptation normally starts at 500 pieces. A substantially new frame, fitter or manufacturing construction generally starts at 1,000 pieces for that model. The quoted version defines what belongs in one batch.

Sampling support

VST can make a complete sample as your custom lamp shade manufacturer. The quotation lists processing and any frame-tooling charges. Eligible sample expenditure may be returned or credited through a later order under the qualifying terms agreed for the project.

Lead-time factors

Typical light-customization timing is 15-25 working days for samples and 20-30 for bulk production. Deep customization generally needs 30-50 working days for samples and 25-35 for bulk production. Material selection and frame development affect when the schedule can begin.

Tooling / NRE

A dedicated frame or forming tool may be charged separately from the shade. Written terms can specify how much of that fee offsets goods value on a later qualifying order and which conditions apply.

Supply stability

Repeat orders for custom lamp shades use the specified covering, lining and frame. Agreed materials can be reserved ahead of batches when demand is stable. Assess a later material substitution against the accepted appearance sample.

Packaging & logistics

Custom made lamp shades need ring support and protection from pressure and scuffing. Individual protection, labels, instructions and carton marks can be customized; any nesting arrangement needs to suit the actual shade shape and finish.

Before You Order a Custom Lamp Shade

Start with the lamp you want the shade to fit, even if you have not settled the fabric. The existing fitting and any covering you supply can change the quotation and sample requirements. Also identify which hardware is included with the shade. The lamp base and electrical system are separate unless listed in the agreed supply scope.

Can you work with our own fabric?

Your own material can be considered after its handling, lining compatibility and behavior around the selected light source are assessed. A swatch may be enough to judge appearance; making the shade sample can require more fabric.

Does the custom lamp shade include the lamp base?

The scope can be separated clearly.

Part Order treatment
Shade Frame, covering, lining and specified fitter
Harp or collar Included only if listed
Lamp base and source Separate unless expressly quoted
Can a new shade exactly match an older fabric batch?

An existing shade helps set the closest practical match. Fabric availability, age and batch variation can prevent an exact match, so compare the proposed material before ordering replacements.

Can several lamp bases use the same shade?

Only if attachment, clearance and proportion work on every base. The same outer dimensions do not guarantee a shared fitter.

What if our project specifies material performance documents?

Name the requirement when requesting the quotation so the material and documentation scope can be planned. A decorative fabric selection alone does not establish a tested performance claim.
