Case Snapshot
Client Background
The customer was an Australian electrical contractor sourcing lighting products for outdoor and wet-area project use. The expected applications included farms, aquaculture sites, temporary work areas, humid environments, and locations where backup lighting could be useful during power interruption or unplugged operation. Standard LED tubes did not meet the requirement because they usually depend only on AC input and are not designed for sealed waterproof use with an internal battery. The contractor needed a modified tube light that combined AC operation, battery backup, waterproof sealing, and local plug compatibility.

Customization Scope
Battery Backup: Built-in rechargeable battery allowed operation after unplugging from AC power.
AC Charging Function: Tube worked under AC input while charging the internal battery.
Waterproof Structure: Existing tube placed inside a larger clear outer tube for added protection.
Sealed Cable End: Waterproof end cap, cable gland, and Australian AC plug configured for site use.
Closed Opposite End: Non-cable end sealed to reduce moisture entry risk.
Engineering Approach
VST Lighting provided a customized rechargeable waterproof LED tube light based on an existing tube product with a built-in battery system. The base tube could work under AC power and continue operating from the internal battery when disconnected. To improve protection for the target environment, VST placed the battery-equipped LED tube inside a larger clear outer tube. This outer housing created an additional barrier against moisture and physical exposure. One end of the assembly used waterproof end caps, cable glands, an external power cord, and an Australian AC plug. The opposite end was sealed to reduce moisture entry points. The customization combined standard product selection with deeper structural modification. VST reviewed the tube body, charging function, internal battery placement, cable exit, plug type, sealing method, and outer housing fit before preparing samples. After confirmation, the same structure was used for bulk production.
How We Delivered
VST reviewed the AC operation, battery backup, waterproof structure, plug type, and target application environment.
An existing LED tube with built-in rechargeable battery and waterproof plug was selected as the development base.
The inner tube was placed inside a larger clear outer tube with sealed ends and cable gland protection.
Samples were checked for charging function, battery operation, cable exit, plug fit, and sealing structure.
Production started after approval using the confirmed tube structure, plug configuration, and packaging reference.
Results & Outcomes
The customized tube gave the contractor a practical lighting option for wet, humid, and temporary-use environments where standard LED tubes were not suitable. The AC charging and battery backup function allowed the light to support normal powered operation and continue working when unplugged or during short power interruption scenarios. The larger clear outer tube and sealed end structure improved application fit for farm, aquaculture, outdoor, and emergency backup lighting use. For the customer, the main value was reduced product mismatch risk: the sample confirmed the wiring path, plug type, waterproof structure, and battery operation before mass production.
Power Mode: Supported AC operation with internal battery charging.
Backup Function: Continued lighting from built-in battery after being unplugged.
Sealing Structure: One cable end sealed with waterproof end cap and cable gland.
Plug Compatibility: External power cord configured with Australian AC plug.
Application Fit: Designed for wet, humid, outdoor, farm, aquaculture, and temporary lighting use.
Risk Assessment
200 pcs
About 4 weeks for tooling and sample preparation; about 20 days for mass production after sample confirmation.
VST Lighting prepared samples to confirm the AC charging function, battery backup operation, outer clear tube fit, waterproof end cap, cable gland, Australian plug, and sealed opposite end. Sampling helped the contractor check whether the product structure matched wet-area and temporary lighting applications before bulk ordering.
For repeat supply, VST used the approved sample, outer tube size, sealing method, cable gland reference, plug configuration, battery tube specification, and packaging record as production references. Any change to battery, plug, cable, or sealing material would need confirmation before production to avoid variation.
Full Case Notes
An Australian electrical contractor needed a custom rechargeable waterproof LED tube light for wet, outdoor, farm, aquaculture, temporary lighting, and backup lighting applications.
The requirement was not a standard LED tube. The light had to operate normally when connected to AC power, charge an internal battery at the same time, and continue working from the battery after being unplugged. The fixture also needed better protection against wet and humid environments.
VST Lighting used an existing LED tube with a built-in rechargeable battery and waterproof plug as the base product, then adapted the structure for improved waterproof performance. The tube was placed inside a larger clear outer tube to create an additional protective layer. One end was sealed with waterproof end caps, cable glands, and an external power cord with an Australian AC plug. The other end was fully sealed.
This was a practical project customization case based on an existing product platform with structural and wiring changes. The main work included battery backup integration, AC charging logic, waterproof sealing, plug configuration, and sample confirmation. Tooling took about 4 weeks, and mass production lead time was about 20 days after approval. MOQ for this customized version was 200 pcs.
