Client Background

The project context behind the customization.

The customer was a Spanish electrical contractor supplying lighting products for commercial retail projects. Their end applications included supermarkets, butcher counters, bakery display areas, and food presentation zones. The contractor needed an LED alternative to existing Osram Natura fluorescent tubes, especially color 76. Standard white LED tubes could not reproduce the same food-enhancing visual effect. A normal pink LED tube was also not acceptable because the project required a specific tone close to the existing fluorescent reference used by the customer’s market.

Customization Scope

What we customized and why it mattered

Key Custom Points

01

Pink Spectrum Match: Phosphor formula adjusted to come close to Natura color 76 visual tone.

02

Food Display Effect: Color tuned for meat, bakery, and fresh produce presentation areas.

03

T8 Tube Format: Existing T8 LED tube structure used to support practical project replacement.

04

Sample Comparison: Multiple failed color trials reviewed before final approval.

05

Production Reference: Confirmed color sample used as the reference for repeat orders.

Why This Approach Worked

Engineering Approach

Solution provided

VST Lighting provided a custom pink T8 LED tube based on an existing tube structure, with the main customization focused on spectral color matching. The mechanical format remained close to a regular T8 LED tube so the contractor could use it in suitable replacement and project supply scenarios. The customization work centered on phosphor powder formula adjustment and LED color output comparison. VST tested different pink color directions and reviewed the visual result against the target Natura color 76 reference. The work required repeated sample trials because small spectral changes created visible differences on meat, bread, and fresh food surfaces. After sample confirmation, the custom color was moved into mass production using the confirmed material reference and tube specification. The MOQ was kept practical for project use, while the production lead time after color approval followed the regular T8 tube production schedule.

How We Delivered

Delivery process

01

Requirement Review

VST reviewed the target tube type, food display application, and Natura color 76 replacement requirement.

02

Color Trial Development

Multiple phosphor powder formulas and LED color directions were tested against the target pink tone.

03

Sample Comparison

Samples were checked for visual effect on food presentation instead of judging color only on a workbench.

04

Customer Approval

The confirmed pink tube sample was accepted as close enough for the contractor’s replacement projects.

05

Mass Production

Production followed the approved color reference and standard T8 tube production process.

06

Repeat Supply

The confirmed color version was kept as a reference for later orders and similar retail applications.

Results & Outcomes

What the buyer gained from this custom project

The final pink T8 LED tube gave the contractor a practical LED replacement option for food presentation projects that previously depended on Natura color 76 fluorescent tubes. The approved color was close enough for the customer’s project requirement and helped them move forward with pending supermarket and fresh food display opportunities. The case also created a repeatable product direction for VST Lighting. After the first project approval, the same pink LED tube concept was promoted to other customers and accepted in more retail food lighting markets. The main value was not only the tube itself, but the confirmed color reference that made later quotation, sampling, and production clearer.

Color Match Result: Approved as a close replacement for Natura color 76 visual effect.

Development Time: Around one month spent on color formula trials and sample comparison.

Project Result: Helped customer proceed with pending food display lighting projects.

Repeat Demand: Later accepted by additional markets and customers for similar applications.

Risk Assessment

Moq

200pcs

Lead Time

Color customization took about 30 days for sample development; mass production took about 2 weeks after sample approval and MOQ confirmation.

Sampling Support

Sampling was central to this case because the main risk was color accuracy. VST Lighting prepared several pink T8 LED tube samples using different phosphor powder formulas. Each sample was compared against the target Natura color 76 effect and reviewed for food presentation appearance before the approved version moved into production.

Supply Stability

After approval, VST used the confirmed sample and phosphor formula reference to support repeat production. Stable repeat supply depended on keeping the approved color sample, material reference, tube specification, and packaging records unchanged unless the customer confirmed a revision. This helped reduce color drift between later batches.

Full Case Notes

Custom Pink T8 LED Tube for Food Presentation Replace Natura

A Spanish electrical contractor needed a custom pink T8 LED tube to replace Osram Natura T8 fluorescent tubes in food presentation areas. The application included supermarkets, butcher shops, bakeries, and fresh food display zones where the light color strongly affects product appearance.

The key requirement was not a standard pink LED effect. The tube had to come close to the visual tone of Natura color 76, which was commonly used to make meat, baked goods, and selected produce appear fresh and appetizing.

In March 2012, this was still a difficult customization. VST Lighting tested multiple phosphor powder formulas and LED color combinations before reaching an acceptable match. Several sample attempts failed because the pink tone was either too red, too purple, or not close enough under real food display conditions.

After about one month of color development and sample comparison, VST confirmed a pink T8 LED tube close enough for replacement use. The customer used the tube to support pending retail projects and later repeated orders followed from similar markets.
